Cooloola's walking plans need a wet-weather rethink
Conditions checked · Recheck official notices before travelling.
Adding a walk to a Cooloola camping trip needs a fresh look at the route. Queensland Parks has reported water over several sections of the Cooloola Wilderness Trail after rain. Its notice runs from 8 September to 8 November 2026, but that administrative window is not a prediction that the water will remain unchanged until November. Water alert, published 8 September.
The park also lists a separate closure preventing pedestrian access across Kin Kin Creek. Check that restriction when planning the start, finish and return journey. Cooloola's current park alerts.
This update concerns a walking trail. It does not establish the condition of Cooloola's beach-driving routes or inland 4WD tracks; those need their own checks.
For a mixed camping and walking weekend, decide on the walking plan before the group leaves camp. Match the route to the least experienced person, leave room to turn back, and keep a shorter alternative in mind. Nobody needs to complete an old itinerary simply because the campsite is already booked. Current ranger advice and signs should guide the final decision.
